On November 29th, 2011, a mob of protesters stormed the UK Embassy in Tehran. According to main stream media, the mob was composed of militant students who ransacked the offices and briefly kidnapped some of the staff. As I was driving from work, I heard the CBC radio commentator say that "the people are expressing their anger as the sanctions against the regime are starting to bite".
How can a CBC journalist be so naive ? There is no such thing as a spontaneous demonstration in a country like Iran.
Firstly, the police did not intervene before 2 to 3 hours into the event.
Secondly, UK Foreign Secretary William Hague who is better informed, is quoted on BBC News to have said that there had been "some degree of regime consent" in the attacks on the embassy and on another UK diplomatic compound in Tehran (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-15966628).
Thirdly, an Iranian journalist noted on his blog that he has recognized the head of the Revolutionary Guard IRGC Qods brigade "Karim Jalali" amongst the attackers (http://www.farshadebrahimi.com/2011/11/iranian-revolutionary-guards-occupying.html).
Clearly, nothing spontaneous in the storming of the UK Embassy ! Only the Mullah regime response to Britain cutting off all ties with Iran's banks on Nov 22nd after the IAEA report revealed the military nature of Iran's nuclear program.
